Welcome to 8th Grade Social Studies

Welcome back to school North Iredell Middle Bears! 2019-2020 is going to be a GREAT school year!

My name is Melissa Anderson and I am very excited to be with your social studies teacher at NIMS this year! I am an experienced classroom teacher, having worked in the Wilkes County School System for 19 years. This begins my fifth year teaching at NIMS.  I am a graduate of Appalachian State University. While at ASU I earned a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Social Sciences and Secondary Education, and I also earned minors in Political Science, Sociology, and Psychology. I hold highly qualified North Carolina teacher certification in the areas of: social studies (grades 6-12), English/Language Arts (grades 6-9), and Academically & Intellectually Gifted (grades K-12). Most of my career has been spent teaching at the middle school level in English/Language Arts and social studies. I have taught sixth, seventh, and eighth grades.

I live in Wilkes County on the Brushy Mountains which is in the Moravian Falls community. My husband Paul and I own a small farm where we enjoy our three horses, and several other pets (cats and a German Shepherd). I have several personal hobbies & interests that I enjoy: riding and training horses, hiking and being outdoors, photography, reading, and spending time at the North Carolina coast.

Now that you know a little bit about me, I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you this year! We will get started with a Student Interest Inventory which will allow me the opportunity to get to know you a little better.

Please check back on this website frequently as I will post many of our class assignments, resources, announcements, and other news here.
